Our love affair with paper started in 1988. Since then Kates Paperie has emerged as the nations most recognized paper store and resource for exotic papers and paper accoutrements. There is something quite magical about Kates Paperie - its a combination of our visually stunning environment, our beautiful assortment of gifts, our selection of over 4,000 papers from more than 40 countries and our vast collection of more than 1,500 couture-quality ribbons from around the world. We promise you a shopping experience to awaken your senses! Kates Paperie has four convenient store locations in New York City and one in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1988 we introduced our first store in Manhattan at 8 West 13th Street , adjacent to Parsons School of Design. Kates Paperie Soho was launched in 1993, at 561 Broadway. Our third store opened its doors at 1282 Third Avenue in 1999, and in November 2002, Kates joined the Greenwich , Connecticut neighborhood. Kates fifth location began welcoming visitors in 2003, just down the street from Carnegie Hall at 140 West 57th Street . Kates Paperie was founded by the current owners - Leonard Flax, Chief Executive Officer; and Joe Barreiro, President - who were united by their mutual love of paper. Their primary desire is to educate and excite the public on the endless possibilities of paper. Both have long been passionate about and involved in the world of paper. Leonard is also a founder of Sam Flax Inc., a leading art supply retail chain with locations in Atlanta and Orlando. Yes, there really is a Kate! Kates Paperie was named after Kate Flax, wife of CEO Leonard Flax. Paperie is a word created to express the feeling of Kates Paperie - to convey the sensuous and touchable nature of fine handmade paper and paper products .
